“It becomes a kind of Catch-22,” said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. “One of their criteria is the issue of viability, but without their endorsement, viability becomes very tough, because so many people use them as their barometer of, ‘Oh, does this woman have a chance?’”

Emily’s List has also faced criticism that it does not do enough to lift up women of color. Nina Turner, an African-American former state senator from Ohio who was endorsed by Emily’s List when she ran for secretary of state in 2014, said minorities may face higher hurdles than white women in raising money, because they are less likely to come from wealthy circles.

“I got the money late when I needed it early because they were judging my ability to fund-raise more than where I stood on the issues,” Ms. Turner said, adding, “I don’t think they take into consideration the hurdles that black and Hispanic women have to jump when you judge viability.”

Ms. Schriock said Emily’s List does recognize “the obstacles that are particularly in front of women of color.”

“Do we have to do more?” she asked. “Absolutely, as does the party.”

In the Georgia governor’s primary, race — and a chance to make history — was “a big piece,” but not the only consideration, in Emily’s List’s decision to endorse Ms. Abrams, who is African-American, Ms. Schriock said. Ms. Abrams, a former minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives, has a national profile and a longstanding relationship with Emily’s List, which gave her its rising star award in 2014. If elected, she would become the nation’s first black female governor.

She has also outraised Ms. Evans, reporting nearly $3.3 million in campaign contributions, according to campaign filings in Georgia, compared with $2.6 million for Ms. Evans.

Some political analysts say that Ms. Evans might have broader appeal with white moderates and thus a better chance of winning a Georgia general election. Ms. Schriock disagrees. She says Emily’s List is counting on Ms. Abrams, who is favored to win the primary, to expand the Democratic electorate by pulling in black and Latino voters who might not otherwise go to the polls.

The Georgia WIN List, Georgia’s equivalent of Emily’s List, has remained neutral in the campaign.

“For us to have chosen between the two, it would have destroyed my organization,” said Melita Easters, the group’s chairwoman.

Leicestershire have made an imperious start to their Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash against Durham posting 301 for 4 on day one, punishing Paul Collingwood for inserting the visitors at Emirates Riverside.

Michael Carberry, Paul Horton and Mark Cosgrove all made fifties as the home side's bowlers toiled on a flat pitch, leaving them with a huge task ahead of them to get back into the contest.

The toss was contested and Collingwood opted to send the visitors into bat, despite the bright sunshine at the Emirates Riverside. Carberry and Horton were watchful at the crease in the early stages of the innings to see off the threat of the new ball. Once Chris Rushworth and Nathan Rimmington were removed from the attack, boundaries flowed off the bowling of Barry McCarthy and James Weighell as Leicestershire coasted into lunch at 80 for 0.

Horton remained composed after the break and notched his fifty off 114 deliveries - his second on the bounce in the County Championship. The visitors eased past the 100-run mark before Carberry reached his half-century as he guided a shot down to the boundary, reaching the milestone slightly quicker than his partner in 97 balls.

The opening partnership of 146 was broken when Horton played a loose cut off the bowling of Nathan Rimmington, drilling the ball straight to Cameron Steel at point for 75. Carberry followed for 73 when he was adjudged lbw to Barry McCarthy in a tight call. Colin Ackermann found the boundary with regularity, notching five fours and six, and was looking comfortable at the crease as Leicestershire passed 200.

However, the South African fell one delivery shy of the tea break when he edged behind a delivery from James Weighell for 36. Mark Cosgrove found his feet and was able to compound his side's advantage, blunting Durham's attempts to break back into the contest. McCarthy notched his second breakthrough of the game when he snagged Ned Eckersley lbw for nine.

Cosgrove remained composed and reached his fifty with a boundary, nudging a McCarthy delivery through gully. The Australian's half-century was the quickest of the lot, taking only 80 balls, with nine boundaries in his innings.

Durham took the new ball with the hope of making further inroads, but the attempts of Rushworth and Rimmington were in vain as pitch continued to offer little assistance. Cosgrove and Lewis Hill continued to put runs on the board and they took Leicestershire's total beyond 300 in the final over the day, with the Aussie unbeaten on 66.

BJP And Congress Face Tough Fight Between SC And ST Seats In Karnataka

बेंगलुरु.देश भर में पिछले दिनों सुप्रीम कोर्ट के एससी/एसटी एक्ट पर फैसले के बाद काफी विरोध-प्रदर्शन हुए। केंद्र सरकार ने इसे देखते हुए फैसले के विरोध में तुरंत सुप्रीम कोर्ट में पुनर्विचार याचिका भी दाखिल की थी। इसकी एक बड़ी वजह कर्नाटक चुनाव भी था, क्योंकि राज्य में दलित और आदिवासी समुदाय के करीब 26% वोटर हैं। वहीं, राज्य से भाजपा के केंद्रीय मंत्री अनंत कुमार हेगड़े ने भी कुछ दिन पहले कहा था कि संविधान में बदलाव होना चाहिए। इसका राज्य में काफी विरोध हुआ था।

100 सीटों पर प्रभाव
- कर्नाटक में विधानसभा की 224 में 36 सीटें एससी और 15 एसटी के लिए सुरक्षित हैं। राज्य में करीब 100 सीटों पर अच्छी खासी तादाद में दलित और आदिवासी समुदाय के वोटर हैं। राज्य की करीब 60 सीटों पर दलित समुदाय और 40 सीटों पर आदिवासी समुदाय के वोटर असर डालते हैं।

- 2014 के लोकसभा चुनाव में विधानसभा वार सीटों पर बढ़त के लिहाज से भाजपा 36 एससी सीटों में से 18 और कांग्रेस 16 सीटों पर आगे थी। वहीं, एसटी सीटों पर भाजपा 8 और कांग्रेस 7 सीटों पर आगे थी। अब भाजपा ने इन सीटों को बचाने के लिए पूरी ताकत लगा दी है। वहीं, कांग्रेस भी जमकर मेहनत कर रही है।

सीएम सिद्दारमैया ने तीन समुदायों को मिलाकर अहिंदा बनाया है

- अहिंदा कन्नड़ शब्दों अल्पसंख्यातरू (अल्पसंख्यक), हिंदुलिदावरु मट्टू (पिछड़ी जातियां) और दलितरु (दलितों) का शॉर्ट फॉर्म है। इस समुदाय के कर्नाटक में करीब 60% वोटर हैं। सीएम सिद्दारमैया ने इनके लिए कई योजनाएं चला रखी हैं। सिद्दारमैया भी ओबीसी हैं। वह खुद को भी अहिंदा बताते रहे हैं।

- कांग्रेस के सीएम सिद्दारमैया दलित और आदिवासियों के लिए कई योजानाएं लॉन्च कर चुके हैं। इनमें गरीबों के लिए मुफ्त में अनाज, छात्रों के लिए दूध और किसानों के लिए बिना ब्याज के कर्ज आदि शामिल हैं। चुनाव से पहले उन्होंने एससी और एसटी समुदाय के लिए 23 करोड़ रु. की कई योजनाएं भी शुरू की थीं।

कर्नाटक में परिवारवाद: भाजपा, कांग्रेस और जेडीएस नेताओं के 52 सगे मैदान में

- कर्नाटक विधानसभा चुनाव में कांग्रेस, भाजपा और जेडीएस ने परिवारवाद की पूरी फौज चुनावी मैदान में उतार रखी है। राज्य में 12 मई को होने वाले वोटिंग के लिए 2,655 उम्मीदवार मैदान में हैं। इनमें से 2436 पुरुष और 219 महिला हैं।

- जेडीएस नेता और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री एचडी देवगौड़ा के दोनों बेटे-बहू चुनाव मैदान में हैं। भाजपा और कांग्रेस के सीएम पद के उम्मीदवारों के बेटे भी चुनाव मैदान में किस्मत आजमा रहे हैं।

Abell's intervention leaves Yorkshire with a tough task

Tom Abell produced a captain's innings to guide Somerset into a strong position on the third day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Yorkshire at Taunton.

The 24-year-old skipper rescued his team from 24 for 4 in their second innings, making 82 off 137 balls, with 8 fours and a six, as they recovered to 200 all out. Ben Coad claimed 4 for 61 and Jack Brooks 3 for 44.

That set Yorkshire a testing target of 321 to win on a pitch still offering assistance to the seamers. By the close of a day interrupted three times by bad light, the visitors had reached 49 for 1, with Adam Lyth unbeaten on 25, and trailed by 271.

The day began with Somerset six without loss, leading by 126. They soon plunged into trouble as Coad and Brooks made good use of the new ball to pick up four cheap wickets between them.

Coad had Marcus Trescothick caught at second slip and George Bartlett taken by wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd, while Brooks bowled Matt Renshaw and James Hildreth, both driving.

With their lead only 144, Somerset needed a partnership. It was supplied by Abell and Steve Davies, who added 66 before Davies, on 33, edged Coad to first slip where Cheteshwar Pujara took the catch.

Lewis Gregory got off the mark with a six over midwicket off Brooks and followed up with a four off the next delivery before Matthew Waite had him lbw playing no shot for 14.

At lunch the scoreboard read 113 for six and Somerset had extended their advantage to 233. Craig Overton contributed a bright 18 before being bowled by a full, swinging delivery from Brooks to make it 129 for seven.

Abell stood firm, playing an innings of sound technique and good judgement to reach his half-century off 103 balls, with 6 fours. Dom Bess (14) shared an important stand of 42 before driving at Waite and edging a catch to second slip.

Yorkshire gave Abell two lives, Hodd dropping a touch chance off Coad when the Somerset captain was on 24 and Jack Leaning spilling a more straightforward catch at gully off Tim Bresnan with the batsman on 69.

Abell hit a rare six, clipping Waite over backward square as Somerset's lead passed the 300-mark. Josh Davey made a useful 11 before driving Bresnan to Gary Ballance and the innings ended when Abell was bowled by Coad, aiming a big shot.

Yorkshire were 13 without loss when bad light brought an early tea. On the resumption they had doubled that score when Harry Brook, on 15, edged a drive off Davey to Trescothick at second slip.

At 44 for one bad light intervened again and, although the players returned briefly while five more runs were added, the umpires soon took them off again. After 25 minutes of consultation, aided by a light meter, they abandoned play for the day.

We have to do it the tough way - McCullum

Royal Challengers Bangalore made four changes for their game against Kolkata Knight Riders. Tim Southee finally turned up at the 2018 IPL, while Manan Vohra and M Ashwin were also thrown into the mix. But there was one forced change, and that left a smile on the faces of the KKR bowlers.

A viral infection forced AB de Villiers to miss Sunday's game at the Chinnaswamy, and the void showed in the RCB batting. At 74 for 1 after 9.4 overs, RCB had the platform to launch into the KKR attack. But with only a handful of experienced batsmen to follow, their No. 3 Virat Kohli opted to play cautiously, scoring only 20 runs off his first 18 balls. If de Villiers was playing, Kohli's approach would perhaps have been different, and RCB might have begun accelerating slightly earlier.

There's also the aspect of mental pressure that KKR did not have to deal with. Instead of having to bowl against two of the world's most feared T20 batmen, they had to now bowl at just the one.

"Yeah, it's obviously a couple of smiles on the bowler's faces," Chris Lynn said, when asked how his team reacted to the news of de Villiers' absence. "We know AB, in the form he is, is always a dangerous batsman but we couldn't take the foot off the throat because Baz (Brendon McCullum) is such a good striker of the ball. [We had] a little half-smile but we knew we still had a job at hand."

There were no smiles for RCB, though, who slipped to seventh on the points table after their loss, and when asked if de Villiers was missed, the man who replaced him was quick to agree.

"We definitely missed AB de Villiers," McCullum said. "He's probably the best player in the world and one of the best we've seen in the history of the game, so for him to be absent was a huge blow for us. He's a tough customer as well, so obviously he's pretty ill to not take the field today.

"He's desperate to get out there, so hopefully he'll be back in the next game. He's such a key player for us, and such a good leader. A good man to have around."

Virat Kohli hit 68 not out off 44 balls BCCI

RCB would want de Villiers to be fit when they face Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. It's a virtual must-win for both sides since they're both tied on four points after seven games. After that the terrain gets tougher since RCB go on the road for four straight away games, but looking ahead, McCullum still believes his team can win the IPL.

"It's tough when you're losing a few games, and not getting the results you want, but you just have to be strong in your own group's mind on what you're trying to achieve," he said. "Some people may doubt you, none of that matters, you just have to believe amongst your group that you have the ability to be standing there at the end of the competition with a trophy in your hand.

"We're going to go on the road soon, and it'll be nice to get a win before we get on the road. We're going to have to do it tough, and that's our fault because we didn't get the results earlier."

RCB did this in 2015 and 2016, when they strung together a series of wins to make a late surge into the playoffs. And with two other teams on the same number of points as them, RCB are just one win away from putting pressure on the fifth-placed Rajasthan Royals and fourth-placed KKR.

"The environment at RCB is fantastic," McCullum said. "Now's the time to stay tight as a unit, delivering on our potential as players, and then transitioning that into points."

With de Villiers expected to be fit for the Tuesday game, perhaps the back end of the season is when RCB will - once again - make their mark.
